French Mobile Operators Unite against Cell Phone Theft
The three French mobile operators have decided to unite in order to fight back against the stealing of mobile phones. They are implementing a common data base, allowing users to call in and block their cell phone number on all networks.
The user will have to call his operator to block further calls, and indicate the EMEI code of his handset.
According to a recent study by TNS Sofres, 6% of mobile users surveyed claimed to have been victim of a theft and 3% of a theft tentative. One third of the adult respondents and 57% percent of younger respondents claimed to know at least one person who was victim of a cell phone theft, according to French Yahoo Actualités
