Students must double check SMS results

Students.jpg Following up on a story posted earlier today, about an Indian teenager who committed suicide after checking her exam results and learning (incorrectly) that she had failed, leading mobile service providers are cautioning students to double check their exam results, reports NDTV.

"When the student keys in his or her roll number the information is made available to the content provider, the cellular service providers are just the intermediaries," said Rajat Mukherjee, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Idea Cellular.

"The error might lie at the input end, if the student keys in the wrong number, or with the server," he added.

Incidentally, some of the service providers do not show the name of the student, and as a result, if the wrong roll number is keyed in the result will also be wrong.

After the student keys in the roll number, either 'pass' or 'fail' appears on the screen followed by subject wise division of marks."
