SMS-hooked teens provided legal aid

Young people hooked on using mobile phones and facing increasing debt have been offered support through Queensland's legal aid system, reports ninemsn.

"Attorney-General Rod Welford said teenagers and young people should contact Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ) to get help in sorting out legal problems related to increasing mobile phone debt, including for texting.

"I've heard of young people with mobile phone debts that require payments of over $500 a month - similar to those on a loan for a new family car," Mr Welford said in a statement.

"There are many teenagers who sign mobile phone contracts without fully understanding their obligations, and then have problems."
