Hurricane Emergency Tips
Cingular Wireless publishes for the second year in a row, some hurricane emergency tips before the weather strikes.
"Consumers need to understand what to expect when they use their cell phones or other wireless devices during an emergency and what they can do to prepare".
How you can prepare:
-- Program in all of your emergency contact numbers.
-- Have a family communications plan in place.
-- Keep your wireless phone batteries charged at all times. And easier said than done, have an alternate plan to recharge your battery in case of power outages.
-- Keep your wireless phone dry.
-- Forward your home number to your wireless number in the event of an
evacuation.
-- Consider additional cell phones for your family's use.
And don't forget to use text messaging instead of a voice call.
A year ago, The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA), reminded all Americans in press release, that text messaging can be a fast, efficient and reliable way to communicate in the event of an emergency. And, if more wireless users rely on text messaging in crisis situations, the people who need to make voice calls the most - emergency responders and 911 callers - can get through more easily.
