Pagers beep-out last tone in India

The once-coveted beeper is on its way to fading out into oblivion in India, unlike its counterparts in US and Europe where they co-exist with their trendier cousins — mobile phones, reports The Times of India.

"Hastened to its untimely demise by the unprecedented boom of the cellular phone with the final nail in the coffin for the paging industry, the August 30, 2004 deadline for renewal of licences".
