European Telecom Firms Target Wireless Standards

Vodafone, France Telecom and several other European mobile-phone operators are teaming up to provide a single set of standards to handset-software suppliers, according to the WSJ.

"United Kingdom-based Vodafone and other European operators want all mobile phones to be able to handle a basic set of multimedia services, such as sending and receiving picture messages, as well as make voice calls, these people said".
