Siemens mobile's Phones Speak

Using avatars, that is, something I've ridiculed in the past. Siemens has teamed with SVOX, a text-to-speech specialist, to give its wireless phone users intelligent helpers, known as Smart Avatars, to read e-mail aloud by talking to the user. On the lighter side, the "helpers" can scan the Web to find new MP3 songs, ringtones or downloads.
