Danish mobile price war could spread
Danish telecoms consultancy has said that an aggressive price war in the Danish mobile market could soon spread to other European markets, according to Electricnews.net.
"It is the arrival of MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) that seems to have caused this dramatic price war in Denmark. Denmark has five mobile operators, each with their own network, and four major MVNOs. The arrival MVNOs, it concluded, were in part responsible for massive drop in prices."
On a related subject, an article in the Scotsman, reports on the head of the UK's telecoms watchdog saying that "calls to mobile phones are still too expensive".
"David Edmonds, the director general of Oftel, said he would promote competition between operators and protect consumers from excessive call termination charges, - the amount companies like Vodafone, O2 and Orange bill one another for connecting calls.
These charges are largely passed on to the customer. They can amount to 40 per cent of the cost of a call from another mobile, and 60 per cent of the price from a landline".
