Customers receive electricity black-out warning by text

New Zealand electricity generator and retailer Meridian Energy may use text messages to keep customers informed of power black-outs, if electricity shortages return, according to Stuff: Infotech via SMS: Business Gets the Message.

"Meridian will seek permission from customers to send them text messages in specific circumstances and won't send messages to customers without their prior approval".
