SMS-activated Wi-Fi roaming launched

This is great news for foreign visitors who are roaming on the Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) mobile network. As of now they can send an SMS to SingTel to request a temporary user ID and password to access the wireless hotspots. The company claims this to be a world's first for Wi-Fi service, reports C/Net Asia.

Those wishing to use the service call *186 on their mobile phones, and receive an SMS with the user ID and password within seconds after the call is disconnected. The user ID and password are valid until 12 midnight on the same day, said the statement.
