Name that tune

Austereo Today's radio network is launching an SMS initiative that lets listeners get more information about the songs they like on the various stations, according to B&T Marketing Media via SMS: Business Gets the Message

A feature called Figjam allows listeners to send in an SMS to the station with the word “figjam” and receive in return the name of the song currently playing, the artist as well as details of the previous song.

Music recognition technology:

Austereo's service is more primitive than the existing music-recognition technology which allows people to identify tunes heard on the radio by simply approaching their cell phone to the speaker.

Within a few minutes, they receive an SMS naming the artist and the title of the song.

The following companies offer this technology: Shazam, Mobiquid and soon, Musiwave.
