A British company claims a patent on The use of SMS on TV shows
The use of SMS to add interactivity to TV programmes is facing a potential threat from British iTV entertainment company YooMedia PLC, who claims the company holds a worldwide patent for synchronised interactivity between a TV or radio show and a mobile phone. The company has said it will crack down on companies thought to be infringing it.
The "Trigger TV system", which it's trialling on the Cartoon Network, allows viewers to participate in a quiz based on episodes of Cartoon Network's animated show the Powerpuff Girls. Viewers who register to take part are able to respond to on-air questions by text messaging, according to New Media Zero via Moco News.
