Texting to get police back on the beat

In a bid to cut the thousands of hours wasted in Scottish courts each year and put hundreds more officers back on the beat, plans are being drawn up to issue police witnesses in court cases with a mobile phone to summon them to the witness stand just before they are needed with a simple text message.

The system would allow officers to stay on patrol for as long as possible rather than sitting in a court witness room all day waiting to be called, according to Scotland on Sunday via buzzmachine.
