Wireless spam in the US could spiral out of control.

According to an article in USA today, spam text messages are appearing over US wireless carriers. Though fewer than 10% of US text messages are spam, they could spiral out of control unless serious measures are taken, such as Representative Rush Holt's (D-N.J) bill (Wireless Telephone Spam Protection Act) introduced this year, that would ban wireless spam.

Will legislating mobile spam become a freedom of speech issue, defendend by civil liberties' groups and boil down to the same nightmare as e-mail spam, coined in a nutshell: "One person's spam is another's marketing campaign"? I hope not.
