Anti G8 demonstrators are given Legal Aid cell phone number
Anti-G8 Protests turned violent in Geneva and Lausanne last night, smashing cars and stores windows, setting fires and attacking city buildings (more in Reuters).
Sunday morning as the mass anti G8 march was to begin, Amnesty International lined up two groups of 60 observers to follow the march and join the demonstrators, according to an article by the AFP. And an independant group of lawyers from Geneva was sighted amongst the demonstrators, carrying signs with their Geneva HQ number and a cell phone number, recommending that demonstrators write down these phone numbers on their arms in ink, in case of need. They react quickly and efficiently, testifies the webeditor of anti-g8.org blog, who had them intervene in an altercation with the Swiss police last night.

As the march breaks up Sunday pm, the Swiss police reacted swiftly to stone throwing by hooded demonstrators. To follow news in real time, click on Indymedia.ch.
It appears that throughout the events of the last few days, texting has not played a major smartmobbing role, surely SMS has been used by individuals (whre r u?) but not in any kind of organized way on a large scale.
Some media and and one operator offered G8 breaking news by (premium) SMS and Project Hive has as a total, as of Sunday 7:30 pm, all of 2 photos and 7 entries (cf G8 Summit: High Noon in Geneva and G8 Summit Text Alerts).
