Much interest for Dutch SMS-alarmservice
Gerrit Visser for Smart Mobs reports on a free sms-alarm service that warns registered citizens of the city of Harderwijk in case of calamities.
"The first trial of the service in Harderwijk will be on October 4, when the usual sound alarm takes place on the first Monday of the month. Harderwijk is the first Dutch city to provide this service.
Every Dutch citizen can already sign up at ‘Care and Safety', the company that operates this free sms alarm service subsidized by the national and local government. All it takes is that the local government in the area where one lives chooses to provide this special service.
The service is added to the regular sound-alarm. Main advantage is that the receiver is informed immediately about what is going on and what can be done about it. 'Care and Safety' intends to reach a substantial target group."
