U.S. Cellular launches phone recycling effort

U.S. Cellular launched a recycling effort dubbed the Community Action Recycling Effort (C.A.R.E.) program to collect unused cell phones to benefit Big Brothers, Big Sisters and the environment, reports RCRWireless News.

"According to Inform by 2005, about 130 million cellular phones will be retired each year in this country. Environmental groups are concerned about the potential damage that could result if those phones end up in landfills because of the hazardous chemicals they contain."
