Your chance to text up a piece of local history
A project, called Surface Patterns, is aimed at building a huge archive of memories and revealing facts on the town's past via texting technology, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
"It allows mobile phone users to send a text and receive historic facts about 10 different parts of Huddersfield. The featured sites include Castle Hill, the railway station, the McAlpine Stadium and the university.
When people text us to ask for a fact about a certain place they will be given the chance to leave us a message or memory about Huddersfield.
"Hopefully we will build up lots of thoughts, anecdotes and personal histories of the town.
"There is also an audio line so if people don't want to use text they can leave real voice messages."
Surface Patterns started on Thursday and will run for a year. Texts are charged at the normal rate but it is free to receive the information. The audio line is charged at the normal local rate.
All you have to do to receive history straight to your mobile is text 07781 471038 with one of the following numbers:
0 - to learn about the railway station.
1 - The Media Centre.
2 - Market place.
3 - Library and art gallery.
4 - University.
5 - Castle Hill.
6 - Music.
7 - Greenhead Park.
8 - Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
9 - McAlpine Stadium.
