Arroyo open to text tax

It looks like taxing text messages might happen in the Philippines.

Asked how the President responded to the proposal to tax text messaging, one of several “possible” revenue-generating measures, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Romulo Neri said, “She's open to it.…She's not opposed to it”, reports ABS-CBNNEWS.com.

"Aware of the potential backlash these tax measures can stir in Congress and among consumers, Neri said the new tax proposals would have to be complemented by an information drive on the social impact of such revenues".
