Arizona expands Amber Alert to SMS

amber-logo.gif The Arizona AMBER alert system for child abduction notifications is expanding its distribution system so that people can receive them by e-mail and text messaging, reports KVOA news channel.

"The Amber Alert system in mid-July will start sending notifications to people who sign up to receive them via e-mail, fax and text messaging to pagers and cell phones, officials said Monday.

People who sign up for the new service via the Arizona Amber Alert Web site can choose to receive alerts for one, some or all of 15 Arizona's counties.
