Lipstick Jungle Rescue Attempt Number… ?

lipstick-jungle-nbc.jpg NBC is planning on resurrecting Lipstick Jungle via what has been coined the “Friday Night Lights Treatment” through a deal with DirecTV. NBC has admitted that Lipstick Jungle’s fan base has been impressive enough to make them consider what it will take to keep it up and running, much like last year’s Friday Night Lights sister network deal to save the show. Save Lipstick Jungle

lisptickjunelgeep.gifLipstick Jungle fans are being encouragee to send Maybelline lipsticks (or any other lipstick brand) to Jeff Zucker, President & CEO of NBC Universal, in order to change his mind about cancelling the show. Fans of Jericho protested last year when the show was taken off the air, and their campaign - firing e-mails (effectively shutting down inboxes at CBS), signing petitions and sending bags of nuts to CBS headquarters in protest - brought the show back, at least for a while. Here's what's taking place. Copied and pasted from Sidereel via imdb: Post by lipstickjungleemployee 12 hours ago (Fri Nov 14 2008 13:05:42)

Brooke Shields: Lipstick Jungle Isn't Canceled

Good news, Liptick Jungle is NOT cancelled, according to Brook Shield, reports US Magazine.
quotemarksright.jpgThey thought that because My Own Worst Enemy has been shut down that the same thing had happened to us, and it's not true," she told reporters at Sunday's Cookie magazine Kidsfest in NYC. ... Shields said fans have already sent in tubes of lipstick to Jeff Zucker, president & CEO of NBC Universal, to show their support. "It's been insane," she went on. "I think that the public outcry has been crazy, and it's kind of wonderful."quotesmarksleft.jpg

CBS, NBC Shows Resonate Via Handhelds

heroes460.jpg According to Nielsen Mobile, CBS’ content is among the most popular in the burgeoning medium, as viewers are beginning to turn to mobile devices to take in their favorite hour-long soap, or even that week’s episode of CSI. MediaWeek reports
quotemarksright.jpgNBC is drawing the largest audience to mobile video, per Nielsen. According to the network’s internal numbers, this past fall NBC.com generated 1.8 million mobile video streams, 1.3 million of which were full episodes of shows like Heroes, The Office and even Lipstick Jungle. Those sorts of numbers are upending conventional wisdom about mobile content—that it has to be short in length and shot with a tiny screen in mind. “Long-form is doing better for us than short form, and yes we’re surprised,” said Steve Andrade, general manager of NBC.com. “But we shouldn’t be surprised, since we had the same thought online, and that’s proven not to be true.” However, what is different about the Web versus the mobile Web is that users are far less inclined to search aimlessly, and thus they’re unlikely to find a lot of new options. “What we find is that discovery is a problem,” said Jeff Sellinger, senior vp of CBS Mobile. That’s why familiar, well-marketed shows like CSI break through, while made-for-mobile shows can struggle to get noticed. Sellinger said the network is still producing original mobile series, and has scored with easily accessible shows like Daily Delivery, which provides short bursts of Hollywood news. (That show is nearing 1,000 episodes.)quotesmarksleft.jpg

‘Lipstick’ Fans’ Delayed Gratification

Whether NBC’s “Lipstick Jungle” returns later this season or next season will largely depend on whether it increases its overall audience, and not just among those watching on a delayed basis. [via The New York Times] permalink (December 1st, 2008)

Is the Web Hurting Guilty Pleasure TV Shows?

gossipgirlstreaming.jpg Complaints by Lipstick Jungle’s creators that its cancellation threats are unfair because much of its audience isn’t measured may not be just whinning, according to Liz Gannes on NewTeeVee.
quotemarksright.jpgCould the increasing number of options for watching TV shows that fall under the guilty pleasure category mean they are slipping in the conventional rating systems? Soap operas are some of CBS Interactive’s most popular online programming, I’ve been told. I’ve also heard concern from networks that younger-skewing shows just aren’t as economically viable these days, because their audience could care less about the TV. BitTorrent, YouTube, TV Links, iTunes — it’s all at their fingertips.quotesmarksleft.jpg

NBC cancels 'Enemy' and 'Lipstick'

large_lipstickjung.jpg NBC has pulled the plug on freshman tentpole drama "My Own Worst Enemy" and returning sophomore series "Lipstick Jungle," reports The Live Feed. I don't know about "Enemy" because I haven't seen it, but "Lipstick Jungle" is one of my favorite shows, what a disappointment. The three main women characters have the most elegant wardrobe ever seen on TV, with none of the fashion-victim touch that afflicted at times "Sex and the City". On the show's website, you could purchase the clothes by episode or by character - but in truth, what was offered was not what they really wore. That is the only disappointment of this show. Something the networks could have capitalized on... And the story line is great. permalink (November 14th, 2008)

“30 Rock” to premiere on Hulu before it hits NBC

30rock1.jpg Gadgetell reports that “30 Rock” is premiering this Thursday on Hulu, a full week before NBC will air the episode.
quotemarksright.jpg... NBC probably has seen an increase in traffic to both Hulu and NBC.com with the upcoming presidential election and Tina Fey’s spot-on Sarah Palin impression. Seeing this trend, perhaps NBC actually understands that the online component of television is viable.quotesmarksleft.jpg

Pilots of new US shows leaked online

Some of the most anticipated autumn pilots from America’s top TV networks can be found on line, according to TVScoop and TVWeek. "Shows including the much hyped Bionic Woman, The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Lipstick Jungle have been made available from illegal download sites such as Torrent Spy, The Pirate Bay and Mininova ince last Friday. Other titles include Pushing Daisies, Cavemen, Reaper and Chuck. In recent years, some networks have begun to distribute premiere episodes online in advance of their debuts. Such promotional previews are often carefully timed to hit right before the regular broadcast of the show. Also, network previews are typically streamed via the network’s own Web site, or through other controlled environments such as popular portal and business partners like AOL or MSN." permalink (July 31st, 2007)
