T-Pain iPhone App: 300,000 Downloads in Three Weeks

It’s been a little less than a month since the sing along I Am T-Pain hit the app store. So how has it faired? Pretty good, it looks like. I am T-Pain by Smule (makers of the Ocarina app) lets you sing along with T-Pain songs using auto-tune technology. The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Like with a karaoke app., you just sing along to the words into the iPhone mic. When you listen to the recorded track, you hear your voice all synthesized and modulated like T-Pain. Auto-tune is a technology that can both correct for errors in pitch but also change your voice, making it sound synthetic.

T-Pain takes crown as king of ringtones

Enter most any dance club and odds are you'll soon hear "Buy U a Drank" by R&B sensation T-Pain before the night is through. Reuters reports. But the hit single gets most of its spins as a 30-second clip. "Buy U a Drank" is the best-selling mastertone of 2007, according to Nielsen RingScan, moving more than 2.3 million units year to date. ... The Southern soulster gives credit to ringtones -- in addition to a close relationship with hip-hop/R&B hitmaker Akon -- as a significant factor behind his success. T-Pain Dominates Ringtone Charts

This week T-Pain's "Buy U A Drank beats out artists such as MIMS, AKON, Avril, and Beyonce as the #1 ringtone on the Billboard Hot RingMasters chart for the 2nd week in a row. Professional musicians are taking smartphones on tour with them for their musical capabilities, too. A video of the band Gomez shows the group using an iPhone as an instrument. The Gregory Brothers, the band formed by the siblings who make the "Auto-Tune the News" video series, have used the I Am T-Pain application to add robot-style vocal effects to their live shows.

Top AT&T Ringtone For 2007

AT&T on Thursday released a list of the Top 10 most downloaded ringtones, revealing that mobile users are hungry for music by popular artists instead of polyphonic sounds created specifically for cell phones. TechWeb reports. AT&T's Top 10 list revealed that out of the 40,000 ringtones it offers, the most popular ones are the carrier's music tones. They are as follows: 1.
