South African Wireless Operator Cell C launches The Fastest Fingers Competition


South African wireless operator Cell C is to launch a new competition that it hopes will take the teenage market by storm, as the operator seeks the country's fastest SMSers, reports ITWeb. "The Fastest Fingers competition is a search for the fastest SMS typed on a mobile phone, and will run during youth television series Backstage on eTV at 6.30pm, between 6 and 10 December. Cell C hopes to see thousands of youngsters attempting to break the Guinness World Record held by a British resident, who typed 26 words in 67 seconds last September. Just for the record, Engadget reported a couple of weeks ago, that a high school kid in Utah broke the world record for fastest text messaging in November. The competition will run for a week, during which viewers will be asked to SMS a phrase that will flash on the screen during the Backstage show, and the fastest viewer to send the phrase to the number 35552 will be the winner for the day. "The Delhi leg of the competition will be held from 9 th to 12 th February, 2005 at the Mobile Expo 2005 to be held in Pragati Maidan. Texting champ wins $50,000


lg_texting.jpg Parents may want to rethink scolding their kids for texting at the dinner table, since it could win them a ton of money, writes News.com. "A 20-year-old college student from Cleveland State University just won the $50,000 grand prize in a national texting competition held in New York this week, sponsored by cell phone maker LG. The previous highest prize paid for the "fastest texter" was a contest also organized by LG Electronics in March 2007 which paid $ 25,000. National Texting Championship. Win $ 25'000


LG Electronics will be holding a National Texting Championship with the first prize set at $25,000 for the fastest texter. The contest will be held in Hollywood, at Paramount Studios and in New York City, at the Roseland Ballroom. The contest is open to the public and will be held on March 31, 2007. guinnessfasttext.jpg Karan Sachdev, a second year B Com student of Delhi University, became the Indian SMS king, by punching a confusing message of 160 characters in 66 seconds - beating the previous record by one second - in a tense competition in the Capital on Saturday, reports the Times of India. Karan claimes he sends 200-300 messages everyday. A Dunedin teen is New Zealand's latest Guinness world record holder - for texting blindfolded. Stuff reports. "Elliot Nicholls, 17, broke the world record in Dunedin yesterday,not once but twice, texting a 160-character message blindfolded and finishing in 51 seconds on his second attempt and then 45 seconds on his fourth try. The previous record was set by an Italian at one minute 23 seconds. Sixteen-year-old Ang Chuang Yang, a student from Singapore, broke the Guinness World Record for the shortest time needed to type a 160-character SMS message on Sunday after whizzing through the task in 41.52 seconds in a competition, reports Reuters. Just for comparison'ssake, in 2004, James Trusler typed the message in 67 seconds beating his previous record by one second. Trusler was the confirmed world text champion by the Guinness Book of Records since September 2002.
