Armani phone comes with built-in rape alarm

The Giorgio Armani Samsung handset, unveiled at Milan Fashion Week before the designer's spring-summer fashion show, uses cutting edge technology to ensure the world's most safety-conscious mobile. The credit card size designer mobile phone comes with a in-built 'rape alarm' function which can be activated from a pocket or even handbag. The phone automatically sends an SOS text message to five pre-programmed family or friend phone numbers, alerting them to danger. By pressing an easy-to-locate volume control button four times in quick succession - which can be done through jeans or any heavy material including leather - an automated emergency text is sent. Received within seconds, the recipient can then call the phone, allowing them to gauge the situation and respond accordingly by calling the police. Armani to unveil fashion phone on Monday

According to Reuters, Armani, Italy's leading fashion designer, will unveil his Armani branded mobile phone on Monday. It will be shown in Milan, September 24, at the Giorgio Armani women's fashion show for Spring / Summer 2008. According to Telecoms Korea, Samsung Electronics is in discussions with luxury brand Giorgio Armani on jointly producing electronics items. Padang. SMS sent from rubble offers hope of survivors

According to Sky News, a text message was sent Friday night asking for help, from a trapped guest under the remains of the ruined Ambacan hotel.

"We think there are eight people alive in there. One sent an SMS to a relative in a village, who got the text at 3pm yesterday," said Arkamelvi Karmani, an army officer involved in the rescue operation. The official said the text message had called for help and also begged rescuers: "Be careful that the excavator doesn't cause the building to collapse on us."

Business Drying Up for Luxury Phone Makers

After years of chasing the ultra-wealthy with exclusive devices that carry designer logos and promise craftsmanship from materials such as sapphire and stainless steel, luxury phone makers are now pulling back, reports Wired.

... In the last few years, luxury phones had turned into an attractive new business, as designer houses rushed to get a foothold in the tech sector. Prada collaborated with LG to launch two LG Prada phones in Europe and Asia. Last September, Samsung launched the M75500 Night Effect phone, which carried the Emporio Armani insignia. A month later, Motorola offered a $2,000 phone, called the Aura, which was fashioned out of stainless steel and sported a 62-carat sapphire crystal lens. And then there’s Vertu, a company that makes true luxury phones, the cheapest of which costs about $6,000. The recession put a spoke in those plans. And it’s not just the 401Ks of middle-class Americans that have been in peril. In Russia, many newly-minted billionaires saw their fortunes slip away with falling oil prices.
