iPod Users Hate Cell Phones - Survey

ipodpink.gif A British sociologist has bad news for the mixed-media wizards looking to use streaming video and other tactics to tap into the lucrative IPod culture, reports Personal Tech Pipeline via Mike's List.

"He's found that owners of Apple's popular digital music player love being able to shut out the world's distractions, hate their cellphones and would prefer not to talk to anyone."

... Over the last 18 months, Bull has surveyed and interviewed more than 1,000 IPod users from around the world. His findings are to be published next spring in a book on the IPod's cultural impact.

Bull found IPod owners love the ability to live and work uninterrupted with a personalized soundtrack for their ears only.

"It's not that they don't want to know about things, but they want to define the terms and conditions" under which they are disturbed, said Bull, who teaches media and technology at the University of Sussex."

.. Some Podders take things further. Much further. There have been iPod parties in clubs in New York City, Amsterdam, and even places like Café Montmartre in Madison, where folks take a number and get ten to 15 minutes to try to out-deejay one another.
