German Youth Media Protection Watchdogs Look Into Ringtone Advertising

According to a report by the southern German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung TV advertising for ring tones is an item on the agenda of today's meeting of the Commission for Youth Media Protection, reports heise online via Moco News

"Ring tones are not only controversial because of their potential to annoy noise-wise on TV or on the street, their suppliers have also repeatedly been accused of setting cost traps for adolescents in particular through impenetrable subscriber models.

However, the accusations leveled at ring tone advertising on TV in this instance focus primarily on the possible exceeding of the maximum time allowed for such advertising: twelve minutes of every hour; in the case of the music channel Viva, however, on a day in February that figure is said to have reached 18 minutes twice".
