Mobile firms to take on the iPod

_40826627_sendox2_pr.gif Sendo has unveiled its new digital music player/phone at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes - the first of many such devices to be launched this week, reports the BBC live from Cannes.

UK-based Sendo described the X2 as the "first phone that makes playing music truly as simple as making a call".

"Just switch the phone on and press Play," it said. "There's no wading through menus or searching to find your songs."

The Sendo handset - which also has a 1.3 megapixel camera - automatically pauses the music when a phone call is received.

It has a built 32Mb memory but its capacity is expandable to up to 1Gb with a miniSD card, making it an alternative stand-alone digital music players.
