Magix at odds with BPI over mix-your-own ringtones
Magix is at odds with the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) over its new ringtone software, reports PC Pro.
"The software allows you to create your own ringtones from existing music files.
Magix ringtone maker allows mobile users to create their own ringtones from existing music files, remix tracks, add effects, set start and end positions, and even overlay their own dulcet tones. Once finished the ringtone can be copied to a phone via Bluetooth, infra-red or USB.
The BPI warns: 'It is illegal to use Magix ringtone maker to make ringtones from any recording that is protected by copyright without first obtaining express permission from the copyright owners."
