Musiwave Expected To Offer Downloads For Cellphone Users

In a move that promises to rapidly escalate the competition over the newest format for music sales, Musiwave plans to announce today that it had secured licenses to sell the catalogs of all four global music companies as over-the-air downloads to specially equipped cellphones. [via the WSJ].

"The tunes will be available in seven European countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Spain, throughVodafone Group PLC's advanced new wireless network.

The company says a library of 150,000 tracks will be available for download immediately, and plans to expand the number to 500,000 by June and to one million by the end of 2005."
