Korea: MP3 Phone Sales Pass 1 Million
Sales of MP3 player-equipped mobile-phones passed the 1 million units mark last month, highlighting copyright worries over digital music content, according to figures released by mobile-phone operators, reports The Korea Herald via Moco News.
"Industry analysts expect sales of MP3-equipped phones to reach 2 million units by the end of the year, possibly exceeding the number of stand-alone digital music players which sales reached 1.2 million units through August.
SK Telecom, which has 10 handset models featuring digital music functionability, predicts its sales to reach 1.5 million units for this year.
"Among the 30 new handset models to be released additionally by the end of this year, 17 models will be equipped with MP3 functions,°± said a SK Telecom spokesman. "
