MTV plans direct portal to sidestep mobile operators

MTV has become the latest big name to sidestep mobile operator portals by
planning its own, to provide it with a direct relationship with consumers, reports new mediazero.

"The WAP-based service will be promoted via MTV's TV channels. It follows
similar moves for standalone services from TV production giants Endemol
and Celador.

The launch is MTV's first step into direct mobile content portals and is
the precursor to the launch of a full Java portal."

[...] The 1Click WAP service, developed by The Music Solution, is also available in a Java version. It lets users browse, preview and pay for content from their handset."
