Digital music websites reap most of their revenue from ringtones
The Straits Times has an interesting article on how music download sites are not making money, "but music companies have to try selling music online anyway, because if they don't, those doing it illegally will have free reign, according to a content manager of a local digital music distribution website.
And because of this, he added," local digital music websites have had to diversify, reaping most of their revenue from other services, such as ringtones for cell phones".
Very Interesting:
"Apple has announced that they cannot make money selling songs for US$0.99. This means no matter how many songs they sell, they will not turn a profit,' said Mr Robertson, CEO of Lindows.com.
Last month, Apple CEO Steve Jobs admitted during a financial analyst conference that his company makes no revenue from the iTunes Music Store, which is the current leader in digital music sales, as most of the money goes to the music companies which provide the music content."
