Ringtone music piracy flourishes in Asia

According to Sify News, the phenomenal growth of Asia's mobile phone download industry has spawned widespread music piracy and copyright owners are waging a tough battle to claim royalties in a region sorely lacking respect for intellectual property.

Japan and Korea make the best efforts to ensure ringtone vendors tow the line, followed by Singapore and Malaysia. As for countries like Thailand and Phillipines, they are almost entirely not licensed.
