Ring tones are today's business says the Music Industry

The music industry sees mobile phones as powerful outlets for promoting their artists and distributing music for profit, according to an article in USA Today.

"In recent months, record labels have entered deals with wireless carriers and other companies (such as Upoc.com) to promote their artists by selling rights to their recordings and images for use in screen savers, digital images and ringtones.

The recording industry hopes to drive CD sales and, eventually, direct sales of songs over mobile phones".

"Ring tones are today's business and the downloads are tomorrow's business." -- Paul Vidich, executive vice president for business development for Warner Music Group.
