Allvoices.com lets Citizen Journalists Share Events in Gaza with the World via Cell phones

pageLogo2.png Allvoices.com has set up a page called The Events in Gaza, tinyurl.com/97v9go - to which citizen journalists can contribute via their cell phones.

Erik Sundelof of Allvoices says, 'The whole world is turning their heads to events in Gaza. The effects will be long lasting in the region as well as around the world. Ultimately this will cause suffering to a lot of innocent people on both sides in the area around Gaza. I believe it is time for us to open a dialogue about these events and what they mean to us as a global society. '

The ubiquitous availability of web-accessible camera phones has increased the incidents of direct reporting from event eyewitnesses. The recent events in Mumbai and now the Middle East have proven this, and we now know the best resources come from inside the story.

EC unveils mobile TV guidelines

The European Commission has published a set of mobile TV guidelines that hopefully will accelerate the roll out of mobile TV service across Europe.

quotemarksright.jpgThe EC said it had identified the main principles which EU regulators and governments should follow when authorising operators to provide mobile TV services, including that frequencies made available for mobile TV should be withdrawn if the service has not started within a reasonable period of time. Regulators should keep the authorisation process open to all industry players and create conditions which encourage cooperation between telecoms operators and broadcasters. Also, DVB-H based mobile TV services in every EU country should work together.quotesmarksleft.jpg

LiveStation's demo of live TV on your iPhone

Matteo Berlucci, chief executive of LiveStation, demonstrated for The Guardian the new live TV streaming app developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

quotemarksright.jpgIt's release is dependent on approval from Apple, because LiveStation won't release the app into the wild and so have to wait for the blessing to sell, or give away, the app in the iTunes App Store.

A likely outcome is that Apple approve the app, but only for use on wifi networks rather than over data networks, just as with YouTube and the iPlayer, and so not breach the SDK condition of "unduly burdening network capacity or bandwidth.quotesmarksleft.jpg

Amazon launches iPhone app

amazonapp.gif It's becoming a full time job to keep up with all the amazing new iPhone apps. Here's another one worthy of note from Amazon.com

According to The New York Times, Amazon.com is offering a new iPhone app today called Amazon Mobile with an unusual feature, still experimental.

quotemarksright.jpgThe feature, Amazon Remembers, is a tool lets users take a photograph of any product they see in the real world. The photos are then uploaded to Amazon and turned over to the far-flung freelance workers in Amazon’s Mechanical Turk program, who will try to match them with products for sale on Amazon.com. The results will not be instantaneous (between 5 minutes and 24 hours, the company says), but the idea is to entice consumers to buy products from Amazon instead of its offline rivals.quotesmarksleft.jpg

According to ZDNet, "the new iPhone app also features the ability to search, compare prices, read reviews and make purchases. You also have access to your existing cart, wish lists, payment and shipping options, order history, one-click settings, and Amazon Prime benefits."

Joost gets back on our radar with iPhone app

Joost_iPhone_App_Shot_1.PNG Friday, Joost released an iPhone app that lets users stream and watch any of Joost's 46,000-plus videos for free. News.com reports with a rave review.

quotemarksright.jpgSay what you will about Joost's library of content, the concept behind this app is fantastic. The ability to stream a movie, TV show, or other piece of video content on the go is great. I know the technology is nothing revolutionary--after all the iPhone has had a YouTube app, complete with streaming video, since the device launched. Even given that, when you load up Men in Black on Joost, it just feels like a whole different ballgame. This isn't a video of a dog on a skateboard anymore.

This is real, Hollywood-produced content, delivered to your phone, for free.quotesmarksleft.jpg
