Gangs use cellphones to photograph bank clients, then rob later
Criminals in Port Elizabeth are using cellphone cameras to photograph potential victims at banks before they, or an accomplice, stalk and rob them, informs The Herald Online.
When the thieves saw someone withdraw a lot of money they would take a photo of that person on their phone camera and forward it to an accomplice standing outside. He would then follow the victim and rob him.
“This way the person is not actually followed out of the bank, and there is very little suspicion aroused,” a Pplice spokesman said.
Police operational response manager Director Ronald Koll urged banks to enforce their no- cellphone policies.
