Proposal to Implant Tracking Chips in Immigrants
Régine Debatty on WMMNA, makes an interesting roundup of the different suggestions made to secure the California border of illegal immigrants - one of which would be implanting RFID tags in immigrant and guest workers. A proposal made by Scott Silverman, Chairman of the Board of VeriChip Corporation. Appalling.
To illustrate this post, pictured left, a highway safety sign posted in the early 90s that has become the symbol of immigration and which has achieved icon status. "It transcends its local history," Peter Liebhold, a curator for the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History said. "Its importance is as a metaphor for undocumented immigration into the United States." (From the The San Diego Union Tribune)
