Lights, handset, action: ads go mobile

Australia's first-ever television commercial shot entirely on a mobile phone by ad agency Ideaworks went live this week, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

"Three television commercials for mobile phone company Telechoice, shot on a Nokia phone, went to air yesterday. With its shaky filming, low budget, and minimal cast and production crew - the star, a nerdy mobile phone aficionado, actually filmed himself - the ads are as low-fi as it gets.

And while they are unlikely to win any awards, Telechoice, the country's largest Optus reseller with 90 stores nationwide, believes consumers will sit up and take notice.

But in New Zealand they have taken it one step further, beating the Aussies to it. Last year, Saatchi & Saatchi NZ shot a campaign for its client Telecom New Zealand on a mobile phone.
