Saitama supermarket tries out online vegetable info system

sp08.jpg According to Crisscross News Japan, a trial for a new information system in which a label attached to vegetables containing produce details is read by terminals and cellphones was successfully conducted Thursday at a Saitama Prefecture supermarket.

"The system allows consumers to retrieve data embedded in such labels to learn about where a given vegetable was grown, which farmer cultivated it, how many agrochemicals were used and the route through which it has been distributed."
