TV license fee collecting authority: TV-capable mobile phones are not exempt
According to statements made by the GEZ, the German TV/radio license fee collecting authority, a legal obligation to pay a TV license fee exists in principle for all owners of TV-capable mobile phones. This obligation however would only strictly apply to those users of TV-capable mobile phones who had not as yet registered a TV set with the authority. heise online reports.
"As the majority of some 90 percent of German households was already in possession of at least one TV set, and had registered this set with the German TV/radio license fee collecting authority, an actual obligation to register their mobile phone and pay license fees would exist only in the case of a small number of mobile phone owners."
