Tokyo. Cell phones used as crime-fighting tools
The Tokyo police have started using cell phones to exchange photos of crime suspects and crime scenes as well as information on investigations, reports monsters and critics.
"The police are operating the 'P-Mode' system with the cooperation of Japanese mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Friday.
It`s of great significance that we can quickly view photos of crime scenes and access information on investigations. We`d like to improve the P-Mode system and make greater use of it in efforts to arrest criminals,' a high-ranking police official said.
During a trial run in March using about 2,500 mobile phones, investigators hailed the system. This month the Metropolitan Police Department introduced another 5,250 cell phones so that all of its 101 stations can access information stored at police headquarters."
