Student TV network to launch MMS service

UK National youth channel SUBtv is set to launch an MMS-to-screen facility across its university network, which hopes will provide a new advertising channel for brands to reach the student market, according to Netimperative.

"The service, to launch in September for the new academic year, will allow students to send an image and a text message of up to 150 characters, which will then be displayed on the SUBtv plasma screens installed at locations in 85 universities across the UK.

Every university has a unique keyword, which determines where each MMS is published, and all messages are charged at standard MMS rates.

SUBtv is hoping the initiative will appeal to brands wishing to launch MMS-based content initiatives.

It is hoping to attract a wide range of advertisers, including mobile phone firms and entertainment channels, alongside fashion, retailers, drinks and finance companies."
