Hospitals to ban camera phone use

Hospital bosses across the Black Country are banning visitors from taking photographs without official permission amid fears the craze for mobile phone cameras is threatening people's privacy, reports the Express and Star.

Now, no pictures can be taken of patients without their informed consent and visitors will have to tell the ward manager if they want to take photographs or video footage.

The ban does not only apply to mobile phones, but all cameras.

Head of communications for Walsall PCT Martin Turner said: "We have never had a policy like this before, but then we have never had people wandering about the wards with mobile phone cameras before."
