Next In Line For RFID Tags: The Horse Population In New York
No one can talk to a horse, of course, but a New York equine agency intends to use donated microchips to help "communicate" the identity, health and whereabouts of horses to protect the state's equine population. [via TechWeb]
"Digital Angel Corp. announced Monday that it is providing 500 proprietary Bio-Thermo (temperature-sensing) implantable RFID microchips to the New York State Department of Agriculture's Horse Health Assurance Program. The chips will help launch a voluntary state program designed to monitor infectious diseases and prevent animal theft.
"This is the first introduction of the next generation identification chip in the equine market." Kevin McGrath, Digital Angel CEO, said in a statement."
