German medical clinics test 3G phones for medical applications

Six German medical clinics are testing the applicability of 3G phone for healthcare uses, including using camera phones, according to DMeurope via Alan Reiter's Cameraphone Report.

"Vodafone Germany is providing the equipment for the tests. After the first tests on the use of camera phones for the transmission of X-rays to doctors for consultations ended (this first project demonstrated that it was possible to photograph X-rays with a camera phone and to send them to a consultant for his opinion via MMS.), the research teams are now investigating the possible uses of UMTS in the field of telemedicine. They are also focusing on video telephony applications for the first time."
