Rip off charges stymie MMS

v7_n_nokia6630.jpg Rip off charges for multimedia messaging services (MMS) have led mobile users to shun the technology, reports vnunet.com.

"Although almost two thirds of mobile phones sold in the previous quarter had integrated cameras, MMS usage levels are well below those of SMS, according to analyst firm Canalys.

The Canalys report also warned that next year will see the first impact from Wi-Fi enabled phones that can use either GSM or voice over IP services. Nokia and Motorola both have combined GSM/Wi-Fi handsets on the market.

Meanwhile 3G phones appear to be taking off, although more slowly than some had hoped. In Europe 1.8 million handsets shipped, with the vast majority of subscribers singing up with the 3 network."
