Frequency Shortage Thwarts Foreign Mobile Broadcasting
Foreign-developed mobile broadcasting technologies are expected to face setbacks in Korea due to the lack of available frequencies, a government official said Monday, reports The Korea Times.
"Qualcomm and Nokia have each developed new technologies for mobility-specific broadcasting that hinge on ultra high frequency (UHF) bandwidth, and have tried to land new services in Korea."
"Currently, we don't have UHF bandwidth available because we distributed 10 UHF channels for digital TV. And things will not change until at least 2010,'' explained an official from the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC).
