Criminals Might Abuse RFID Kid Protection System

While Korea's National Computerization Agency (NCA) is developing Children protection system using Radio Frequency Identification or RFID, there are some voices worrying that the program might be used by criminals, reports Telecoms Korea.

"The so called `Children Safety Management Program` implants a crop-sized RFID chip into Children's clothes so that parents can locate their kids whenever they want.

However, during the annual parliamentary inspection Wednesday, Rep. Ryu Seung-hee of the Uri Party said "RFID might seem convenient at first sight, but if criminals obtain children's location, they might take advantage of the information.” Ms. Ryu added, “Wal-Mart, Gillette and Benetton have pushed for using RFID in their outlets but protest from civic groups and consumer organizations deterred them.”
