Japan's DoCoMo launches 3G phone that works in local area network
Japanese cellphone giant NTT DoCoMo launched the world's first 3G mobile that also works as an Internet Protocol phone within buildings, reports the AFP.
"The N900iL operates as a regular Web-browsing, picture-snapping cellphone, but can also handle IP calls made on wireless local area networks (LANs), said Japan's largest mobile phone operator.
"This is the first cellular phone using W-CDMA technology that can also be used as an IP phone," said DoCoMo spokesman Takumi Suzuki. The main benefit to companies is the cost savings," he said.
