Elmhurst aims to curb use of cell phones with cameras

Whether or not to ban the use of comeraphones in certain locations seems to be on the agenda of every City Council.

Of late, Elmhurst (Illinois) City Council members are seeking a balance between protecting privacy and preserving freedom of choice as they mull a proposed ordinance that would limit the use of camera cellular telephones.

"Technology is going to be booming. It's here for a reason," Ald. Susan Rose said. "People want to use it. We want to give people a way to use that without intruding on the rights of others."

The council is taking up the matter as the state is considering legislation to crack down on voyeuristic use of such phones".
